FEMINIST IN ME — It Never Ends, Unless… (Part I)

Do you consider yourself a feminist? I didn’t back then until I came across the word itself. And being a feminist isn’t as bad as what people think. Any of us can be a feminist, be it a man or a woman.

What is a feminist? To make things much clearer here is the definition of a feminist

A feminist is someone who supports equal rights for women. For instance, If you object strongly to women being paid less than men for doing the same job, you are probably a feminist.

If you believe that women should have the same political, social, and economic rights as men, you are a feminist.

It has absolutely nothing to do with putting down men or boys in order to elevate the status of women.

So do you still not consider yourself a feminist, or your perceptions have changed after that definition.

The reason as to why I had to declare my feminist spirit in here, was what I came across recently.

Well just like most people in my spare time I go through social media, and one of my topmost visited social media platforms is Twitter. So this lady tweeted, telling guys that if they find an independent lady who got it all (a nice house, a good car, classy dressing ), then they should man up because they never know how she got there.

What saddened me were the comments in that tweet, and not all but most women and men had negative comments about it. I do agree that everyone has a right to comment but what they want. We are all different after all.

From what I read, most people were like it’s obvious the lady possibly got all of that from the guy she was dating before, or she got that from hoeing. So deep inside I asked myself why didn’t they consider the possibility that the woman hustled her way up there. Why didn’t they think that it’s possible that she got all of that from her own hustle?

That mentality woke the feminist in me. Is it that our ancestors fed us that mentality or it’s just that the society doesn’t want to face the fact that a lot has changed.

So many women pursue their higher educations, and get good jobs, or invest in a business. We got women doctors, lawyers, engineers, politicians, journalists. etc There are so many successful women out there. There are so many women who built their own mansions out there.

It’s high time society stops that sick mentality.
