Facts You Didn’t Know About Michael Shirima — The Founder of Precision Tanzania

I think am among the very few people who did not about this Tanzanian Businessman. Sadly I only heard about him after the news of his death, a few days ago. What got me interested is the fact that he was the founder of Precision Air, yes I was aware that it was a private airline I just did not know that it was founded by a Tanzanian.

Apparently, he is one of the people in Tanzania that you could look up if you are an entrepreneur or if you are interested in being one. And as always I had to do a little online stalking to know who Michael Shirima is. I gathered a few details that impressed me, and it made me question myself as to how did I not know this man : ). Here are a few facts;

  • His full name is Michael Ngaleku Shirima
  • He was born in Useri Rombo District , Kilimanjaro in 1943
  • He was the founder of Precision Air — A private-owned Airline in Tanzania in 1993
  • He owned 5% stock of I&M Bank — Tanzania
  • He was an Aircraft Performance Engineer and Evaluation by Profession
  • He was a board member of The Bank of Tanzania(BOT)
  • He started an orphanage at his home-town — Cornel Ngaleku Children Centre
  • He has written a memoir: On My Father’s Wings: An Entrepreneurial Journey of Finding Humility, Resiliency, and a Lasting Legacy
  • He died on June 10 2023 at the Aga Khan Hospital in Dar es Salaam, where he was admitted on June 8 at age 80.
